The End of an Era

After over 6 years of intensive research and community development work in and around the Yachana Reserve, GVI Amazon is coming to a close. We have finished our final research project (look forward to our Road Effects paper, coming soon!) and are handing over the project to our partner, The Yachana Foundation. They will continue to maintain and monitor the reserve, using it as an hands-on science education center for students -- we're very excited to see what fabulous things this next generation of scientists find! For more detail on GVI Amazon's closure, and our accomplishments over the years, please read on...

Yanif showdown - A fitting end to an exciting expedition

So who did live happily ever after? And who did fall into the depths of despair? Well after a long drawn out affair the final showdown took place after everyone arrived in Tena on the final day of the expedition…

It was staff member Chris who took the glory and had the delights of a super sized free pizza with all the toppings any man could wish for. But it was not a completely happy ending for Chris….. a pizza that size was meant for a large family of pigs and not for one man….. how his belly ached for days and days and days after. Jon on the other hand, despite his meagre hamster sized pizza managed to have a fun filled night of dancing and laughter that lasted until the end of his days.

Overall the expedition was a great success and much fun was had and successful work achieved by both staff and volunteers. It is a sad farewell to base camp manager Jon and staff member Matt after 12 months of GVI service. They shall both be deeply missed and we wish them all the luck for their future plans.

After all the hard work, the remaining staff wait eagerly in anticipation for the next expedition and a new bunch of volunteers in October to continue the projects and see what other amazing experiences the Amazon has to offer.
