The End of an Era

After over 6 years of intensive research and community development work in and around the Yachana Reserve, GVI Amazon is coming to a close. We have finished our final research project (look forward to our Road Effects paper, coming soon!) and are handing over the project to our partner, The Yachana Foundation. They will continue to maintain and monitor the reserve, using it as an hands-on science education center for students -- we're very excited to see what fabulous things this next generation of scientists find! For more detail on GVI Amazon's closure, and our accomplishments over the years, please read on...

Do boys gossip? Really?!

On camp we have two areas used as retreats – the fire pit and the IT tower. The boys like to head up to the fire pit, mainly after dinner. It has been heard that the girls in camp are curious about what occurs up there “Hmmm... are they gossiping? What are they plotting?” Soon the curiosity got too much for Bianca and Laura, and they decided to intrude on the boys private sanctuary and test their stealth skills.

The girls managed to sneak up the hill into hearing distance of the pit successfully and crucially without detection. The answer to their question... of course boys don’t gossip! All the sneaky senoritas overheard was movie-quotes, jokes, football and a humorous exchange of post dinner flatulence. However this act of intrusion by the girls could result in the “boys chats” evolving into prank preparation against them. .. when I say could, it already has!

Three weeks in and the boys are always looking for new ways to fill their free time. Can you imagine what happened when John got out his hair clippers? Of course you can – some truly butchered heads. Leeron acquired a kickass Mohawk, Rob a disgraceful mullet, Benny and offensive double Mohawk and James an attractive racoon cut! Perfect! You have to ask yourselves, if the boys are prepared to do this to themselves for amusement, what do they have in store for the ladies... TO BE CONTINUED.
