The End of an Era

After over 6 years of intensive research and community development work in and around the Yachana Reserve, GVI Amazon is coming to a close. We have finished our final research project (look forward to our Road Effects paper, coming soon!) and are handing over the project to our partner, The Yachana Foundation. They will continue to maintain and monitor the reserve, using it as an hands-on science education center for students -- we're very excited to see what fabulous things this next generation of scientists find! For more detail on GVI Amazon's closure, and our accomplishments over the years, please read on...

Looking After the Gang!

Half way through the second week and I’ve got my first day of camp duty, yay! To be fair, it’s not too bad, got most of the duties done by 9:00am and all we have to do now is cook food for the rest of the day, which can be alright depending on the ingredients you have to use.

Highlight of this week so far is seeing the Yellow footed Tortoise (Chironius scrruls), (only the second time is has been seen on the reserve)! Looking forward to satellite camp tomorrow to try out the jungle hammocks and also going to the market where I may treat myself to a chicken related lunch!
