The End of an Era

After over 6 years of intensive research and community development work in and around the Yachana Reserve, GVI Amazon is coming to a close. We have finished our final research project (look forward to our Road Effects paper, coming soon!) and are handing over the project to our partner, The Yachana Foundation. They will continue to maintain and monitor the reserve, using it as an hands-on science education center for students -- we're very excited to see what fabulous things this next generation of scientists find! For more detail on GVI Amazon's closure, and our accomplishments over the years, please read on...

A Double Wamy....!

The jungle does change you…

Before I came to Yachana I had a great fear of snakes. Once I was walking my dog and a snake appeared on the road and I almost started to feel sick. The other week we were on a night walk, when someone suddenly saw a coral snake. I went back to have a look and my first thought was “Wow, it’s beautiful. Maybe I should take a picture. No, I don’t want to watch it through the camera.” Now I can’t wait until the next snake will show up… in a safe distance of course :-)

I’m a 31 year old kid in the forest

One Sunday afternoon it was time to play some football with the locals. It had been raining all morning and the football field was partly covered in water. It was a great game! Apparently I love mud J Instead of fear of falling and get hurt, I just let it happen. And it felt great! It’s just when you’re on a walk in the forest. There’s nothing like going down from a steep hill after a good rain. Mud is fun!
