The End of an Era

After over 6 years of intensive research and community development work in and around the Yachana Reserve, GVI Amazon is coming to a close. We have finished our final research project (look forward to our Road Effects paper, coming soon!) and are handing over the project to our partner, The Yachana Foundation. They will continue to maintain and monitor the reserve, using it as an hands-on science education center for students -- we're very excited to see what fabulous things this next generation of scientists find! For more detail on GVI Amazon's closure, and our accomplishments over the years, please read on...

Green, Gold, Rapid Jungle Time

What a way to start 2011…in the Amazon, Ecuador amongst the Jungle, sharing the experience with my new 5 week international family. Even after 4 weeks, I’m still trying to find my “jungle feet” when walking through the forest on various surveys. One of my favourite surveys to be involved with is mist netting. This allows us to see small understory birds up close and take pictures of captured, fast moving hummingbirds. This picture was taken when I assisted with mist netting near base camp when six Yachana High School visited last week.

I’m having an amazing experience, and how could I forget celebrating Oz day with awesome new friends? I don’t want to go home just yet and I would definitely recommend GVI Amazon!!
