The End of an Era

After over 6 years of intensive research and community development work in and around the Yachana Reserve, GVI Amazon is coming to a close. We have finished our final research project (look forward to our Road Effects paper, coming soon!) and are handing over the project to our partner, The Yachana Foundation. They will continue to maintain and monitor the reserve, using it as an hands-on science education center for students -- we're very excited to see what fabulous things this next generation of scientists find! For more detail on GVI Amazon's closure, and our accomplishments over the years, please read on...

The Many Uses of the Plantain

Plantain, that banana thing that´s not quite a banana. Whereas bananas serve only one purpose, here on base camp after intense scientific experimentation we have compiled a list of the multiple uses for plantain.

1. Patacones! Slice, bash, fry, done.

2. Potato substitute, nowhere near as good but desperate times…

3. Street food, grilled con queso, si.

4. No more nails! It´s pretty sticky stuff

5. Decorations, they look bang tidy

6. Giant banana

7. Machete, probably sharper than most of the ones here on base camp

8. Disappointing people, “We´ve got chips for dinner… plantain chips”

9. Stocking fillers, Father Christmas really hates you

10. Olly has found some more ´personal´ uses for plantain that really shouldn´t be disclosed here…

But seriously, if there´s any way to make this plantain bombardment more bearable, radio us!
