Friday 13th - Unlucky for some?!
Friday the 13th again there was no escaping the bad luck twice. The rain poured down over the GVI base camp putting an end to any hope of doing the day’s activities which included a minga at Yachana and a satellite camp in the afternoon, the group was confined to quarters for the morning and a good part of the afternoon.
Friday also saw the end of Alan’s time in the forest. Alan was a 10 week volunteer with GVI but after much deliberation decided to head off prematurely due to the economic situation and developments back home. He is basing himself in the nearest big town of Tena, where he will be able to have daily communications and keep an eye on the situation. However Friday the 13th’s influence had other plans. Waiting on the road for the 2pm bus, Alan and chums started to wonder if it was ever going to arrive. Then at 3.30pm news came that the bus had got stuck further up the road. After a gruelling trudge fully loaded with all his gear, Alan came across the stranded vehicle about a mile up the road. With the help of many of the local Ecuadorians, Alan and Glen, some spades and a lot of patience the bus was finally pulled free just over 2 hours later. Alan finally managed to get his bus to Tena but it was close and the whole experience was a great demonstration of Ecuadorian community spirit, helping out those in need!
