Ladies Night
It’s just a normal Saturday night on the GVI Amazon base camp. The one night a week the boys get to look their best, showcasing the most glamorous party dresses. Its still day light but the GVI boys are eager to begin preparation. As I walk past the volunteer cabin, Adam and Ben giggle as they apply the prettiest make up. Following the squeals towards the Comedor, I find Chris B and Olly dancing around the staff cabin, tight floral dresses and faces full of makeup. In the next room Joe sits elegantly as Laura powders his cheeks and Bianca ties up his hair. Its then that Edwin and Chris M enter. Everyone falls silent, staring in awe at possibly the shortest skirts ever to be worn in the jungle. But there is no time to fantasize; it is time for the festivities to begin. The girls are waiting in the Comedor, beers in hand, plenty of stubble and riveting conversation of cars and football. We kick start the Saturday night fun by competing in a collection of childish games. But it is the salsa competition that makes the night. Charlotte and Adam dominate pulling off moves that were perhaps a little risky in Adam’s almost nonexistent skirt. Bianca and Chris B took out the worst dancers and struggled to accept that their salsa looked nothing like salsa. Nevertheless everyone remained on the dance floor. Boys in dresses and girls with stubble, dancing the night away. Just another Saturday night in the Amazon Rainforest Expedition.
