Some exciting sightings!

This week on the GVI Amazon Expedition we were on the way back from exploring part of the rainforest to implement a new interpretive trail for the Yachana tourists, when we saw a Coral Snake. It was a Micrurus langsdorfii’ a species not too commonly seen on the Reserve.

We also saw a Yellow-footed Tortoise (Chironius scurruls) on the way back from a butterfly survey. Being only the second sighting of this species within the reserve it was a very exciting moment. What´s more, The Yellow-footed Tortoise is considered as being ´vulnerable´on the IUCN Red List, so it is great to know our reserve´s protected status helps ensure the existence of rare and threatened species such as this.
